The Word of God has a lot to say about volunteering and helping those less fortunate than you:
Acts 20:35 ESV “In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”
1 Peter 4:10 ESV “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.”
Galatians 5:13-14 “For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’”
Not only is volunteering and helping others good for those you serve, but it is also good for yourself. God promises to bless us richly as we bless others. The more we help others see the beauty in the world, the more we see the beauty as well.
Isaiah 58:10 ESV “If you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday.”
